Cinematic Breakdown + shoots
show user profile  Abishai
Hi all,

Here are shoots from cinematic I made for KeenSWH, for game Miner Wars. I also make one small breakdown (I will probably make later some making off). Sorry because I didn't put whole animation, but I still have to wait for game to come out for now, however I got permission to show shoots and this breakdown.

It was "one man band", I made everything from sketch to final render except those small ships in second and third scene (around planet and sun station), they were some old low poly models but i'm not sure who made them. Logo is designed by my colleague and great artist Filip Novy I only animated it little for the last scene.

I used 3Ds Max (scanline render), After Effects and Photoshop. Some scenes were made for day or two, some for more.
Original (first) deadline was 30 days, but I worked and on some other tasks for game in same time, so i'm not sure how long I worked on this, it was something more than 30 days in all.

.

Hope you will like it

Good stuff!
It's great that you're using scanline too. It's still the fastest renderer.

The planet breaking apart at 0:33 reminds me of something...

Yeah, it's the end scene of Event Horizon (though I believe in the movie the ring was blue).

Hi,

Thanks all, I"m glad you like it! As I got permission to show full cinematic I will post it! :)

btw I'm looking now for that scene from Event Horizo., Because when I was working on this, expecially on that scene (earth scatteres) I didn't have any reference, only direction that they don't want it to explode just to scatter.

Can you post some link to that scene? I hope this I made doesn't look like that, because I tried to all look unique as much as it possible (but when you are working on space scenes you can't always avoid some things, earth will everywhere look very simmilar etc :), many space scenes can look simmilar)

Thanks ;)

Don't stress, the main similarity is the halo explosion but, as far as I know, that's a normal occurrence in space (look at super nova explosions). Other than that your image has a lot more flame effects and looks a lot cooler.

I was talking of the method used to break the planet (semi-private joke, pointless).

Anyway, I don't remember any exploding planet in Event Horizon (?).
For references in that area, nothing beats the opening sequence of Men in Black II. All the possible ways you can destroy a planet and make it look good :)

Looking forward to see the cinematic!

Nope, it was an exploding ship with a black hole generator on board. Maybe I'm confusing the scene with another film, will have to watch it again.
