you did apply smoothing groups to them right?

The ones I did were quite angular but thats what mesh smooth was invented for :o) if you have a problem with performance due to heavy poly count set the iteratins to 0 adn set the render iterations to a higher count i.e. 2 then you can work with the model in low poly but it will render high poly.
[edit] and bearing in mind that what you see of the handle is the entire model i believe i gave the extrusion about 75 segments.

your shadow in the middle of the room is wierd to me is the light coming from the fireplace or behind the chair? the scene would be more interesting if the fire was the only light ok maybe some candles on the mantle to spread a little more light

catman, it isnt floating, click stated on the last page it was actually IN the floor.
Odds are he is using shadow maps and the bias needs to be changed. I'm guessing he has an Omni in the fireplace.

This is kinda off topic from my stuff. But.... Okay here is the deal. My tech teacher said he wouldn't mind getting a 3d software for me to work on in class. But since he only has Bryce and i don't feel like learning something new thats a no. And since this school is to cheap to pay for one student license they aint' gonna by one. So i was thinking would it be possible to copy the whole 3dsmax folder on my computer to a jump drive (all 660 MB) and take it to school and run it every day off of the drive. NOT copying it to the computer cause that's where i think things would get illegal. So is this possible. I know that i will need a 1 gig jump drive.
And on-topic: TO FERAL:The reason why the shadow is weird is cause i have a light source coming from behind the chair and an omni light in the fire place. I plan on moving the light source to shine through a window that will be to the right of the fire place. And yes i was allready going to put candles on the mantle, but can blur fire create like one flame, (for the candles)?
TO TIMPA: I will try to fix the bias. and yes i am using shadow maps.

it should but if not there are hundreds of tuts out there on making and lighting a candle must be popular now from my understanding anything that circumvents licensing is considered illegal so ya trying to run it from a thumb by simply pushing it would be illegal however if you could figure out how to install it on that drive it would only be installed in one place and thus not be illegal

I mean but its my thumb drive just like i can install a copy of max on another computer of mine. So like why would it be legal to run it off my thumb drive. And what do you mean by simply pushing it? Isn't just copying it and all its folders to the drive the same as installing it esssentially?

Nope. Max isn't a portable app. The installer adds some stuff to your registry and some essential services.
Your school can't afford a single edu license? Awful.

uhhh, max wont run on it's own on a thumb drive.
you need a licensing server running. then you need alot of files that get put into the windows directory and embeded into the OS upon installation. and finally there's alot of registry entries that are in there too. i doubt even if you could get passed the licensing issue that it would work.
now if you got windows xp sp2 embeded edition and put it on a thumb drive (you'd need a 2gb one) and then booted off of that, you could then install max onto that and then you'd be mobile.

Its not that they can't afford it. Its that they won't by it cause they think that all the computers should have the same software. They want all computers to be the same. So thats a lot of licenses. And they wouldn't buy one for one of the off server computers cause it would only benefit one person. And they don't have any idea what it is anyways. ARGH.... I HATE MY SCHOOL. I know that my teacher wants me to do 3d but unless he coughs up the money it isn't hapening. They have one copy of bryce 3d. I don't know why. But im not using it.
TO BOLTS: So if i did what you said with that thumb drive. How much would it cost? And would it be legal?

about 150 for a copy of windows xp intteresting idea bolts click that might work but ya pushing and installing definitely not the same registry entries driver registration windows folder files all of this has to happen for an app to run properly try what bolts said

You can install and Run XP off a thumb-drive. I wouldn't recommend it though. It's not terribly quick, and you will get through the drive's read-write limit much more quickly.
Bryce3D is what they want to teach you "3D" with?
Your teacher should go back to school.
