Cheap Camcorders
show user profile  Odie
Hey everyone,

I'm looking to buy a cheap, digital camcorder (less than $250) before my trip to Asia. A friend who is involved with video production recommended the Canon ZR-800 which is in the $150 range:

Does anybody have experience with this product or have suggestions for a better one? Obviously, I want the best quality I can get for the price, but am well aware that this is on the cheap end and shouldn't be expecting top notch.

Thanks guys!

i'd advise something like this http://www.ubergizmo.com/15/archives/2008/04/dxg569v_hd_camcorder.html
$169 is not much for what it offers
it has HD, SD support and small/cool design

i am leaving for portugal for a few weeks soon and i'm actually looking for a similar thing to buy

Yea, that doesn't look like a bad camcorder at all. I can't believe how cheap it is and the specs are quite high too. I don't think 720p would lag too much either on a slowy compy.

soontekk,

do you reckon that with it using SD, data can be transferred back and forth to the camcorder? I know that HDD it's not possible, and wondered if it was the same for SD cards. The only thing that's not good about it is the way it's got no optical zoom :(. Still good though if you just wanna mess about with it taking pictures and stuff.

i don't think you can go back and forth
also depends if you use HDV or AVCHD with the latter not even supported by most editing packages etc

i think ill wait for some more 1080p cams to come out
