dear MF -
my aim was to build an easy to animate character from scratch for my own animation exercises.
did a dozen characters or so before, but none of them was neither ready-made nor worth showing (imo).
started modeling this guy 3 days in may this year, after that: 3 months pause.
took another sparetime of 3 days in august fo the morphtargets. somewhat 3hours a day
rigged it in early september twice, first attempt failed.
i add controller for the body movements and the face morphtargets, wich i never did before
these gives me really headaches but at least very helpful, really worth the effort.
today i`m skinned it via weight table and set him in a "somewhat happy-dancing-pose"
as self-reward for the reason i came that far this time.
whats still missing:
no uv-layout, no texture (did some in between but i was unhappy with, deleted)
no squash & stretch function (should it really have some?)
what i would like to add:
a normal map, never did before too
phonemes, only basic facial expressions so far
some dreadlock hair style
now my QUESTIONS:
- where is this "character-function" wich binds all together under a "master-controller", to store poses and such
- should i attach the cap to the body to avoid overlapping ? but when i do this, i´m afraid, the cap´s shape shifting
- not sure about eyebrows - there is so little space between the eyes and the cap...
- does it need teeth and tongue under every circumstances ?
- and, last but not least: if you like it, what do you expect from this character to do?

nice face rig, I tried that once and it failed :)
This looks like a cousin of groteys sig. :)
I like him I think eye brows would help the expression. Where did you learn to do the controller rig is it just shapes linked as constraintes to the morph targets ? is there a tutorial ?
" Difficult, yes. Impossible , no..."

and jason osipa´s book: stop staring
[edit2] and of course not forget to mention the maxforums.org where i have learned all the basics ;)
[edit3] first very bad error i´ve noticed now is that the hip-to-upper-leg-joints are far out of place. hope to get rid of with better skinning, shame on me...
would work as it is eventually, but not in such extreme poses...
