chamfer toll help
show user profile  ewdann
First, sorry for my english.
I created this model with 3 boxes, applying boolean and then converted to poly. On the interior edges i want to apply chamfer, but because of those edges (marked with red) chamfer command does not come out well.
suggestions how I could do to look like in the third picture

For such an easy shape I would recommend you to just inset those polygons, delete them and then bridge the edges of the holes as boolean tends to mess them up.

This grotorial should be of help. Similar to what you need.

Do not use boolean.

I think something like this is what you are looking for?

Thanks for your answers. But not what I wanted.
The entire surface must be clean, no edges, except the chamfer area. I found this pics on another site.
I'd like something like this.

you could do it by creating 2 rectangles inside a larger rectangle (shapes menu, splines)

convert one to editable spline and attach the other 2 rectangles. Then, extrude modifier. Convert to editable mesh and chamfer away.

not sure how that would work if you smoothed it though

do a shape, extrude it, colaps it into an editable mash than chamfer

"no edges, except the chamfer area"

not possible with editable poly objects, holes always need at least one diagonal edge going to a corner, no questions.

Must be editable mesh

Actually, you said convert to editable mAsh. Even better - that would solve the smoothing issues

I think you're right. Not possible with editable poly so I'll try with editable mesh or inset those polygons like cnopicilin said.

to hide the edges in editable mesh, select the ones you dont want to see and hit 'invisible' in the modify panel
