Catmull-Clark Subdivision finally available for 3dsmax.

Open SubDiv has finally been introduced into 3dsmax, according to an announcement I received in an email today, with Subscription Extension 1 for 3dsmax 2015. Don't know if this has been announced earlier, but I didn't see any posts about it yet.

Pixar released their opensubdiv library some 2 years ago (available to anyone on github).
It's a wonder some applications - like MODO - still haven't integrated it. Good point for max :)

@Nik Clark: I totally agree. It's definitely one of the most positive additions to Max in some time, and such a relief to see the dev team decided not to masquerade this as a full point upgrade feature! It was an addition that's been sorely needed for some time, and will surely make for some happy pipelines.

@Reeves1984: Modo had it since 601, as an option in their SDS parameters. The important thing here is that now 3dsmax has it, and this solves a lot of compatibility issues, and the dreaded UV smoothing issue.

I got an email today from AD for 2015 sp2 but not the ext.
Found it on the site though and installed.

OpenSub Div and Catmull Clark Subdivisions are different aren't they?

Catmull Clark is like turbosmooth pro (max plugin), and it handles edge weighting very nicely.

I believe open subdiv is automatic tesselation, and it improves viewport animation speed greatly.

Modo has Catmull Clark
Maya has Open Subdiv

Looks really cool. I still think I might just go the edge loop way... I mean this stuff won't carry over with .OBJ exports? What about .FXB?

Looks more like a tool for those more concerned about optimization? Also would make it easier to populate correct topology when modeling.

I just don't know anymore! haha.
