Canon EOS 5D MKII 2.0.3 firmware is out!!!!
show user profile  StevegeK
Hey guys

The new firmware is out. I know Kurt has a 5DMKII and me as well. I tested it and works great.

This provides 30/25 and 25 fps shooting at full HD or 640X480.

Also you can control the sound levels manually.

You can download it at Canon's site but the average speed is around 1kb/s at the moment, so I took the liberty to create a mirror:
http://www.stfoto.nl/?p=187

Since I put the mirror up my site statistics changed quite a bit:

So you can see what a hot item, posting at 1 forum and using Twitter can do with your website...

Enjoy!

A couple of weekends ago, I got hit by a freak wave with my 5D mkII and my 16-35 2.8 L

They both got splashed and according to canon they are unrepairable.

Luckily I have insurance!
I have to wait till I can get a new one to try the firmware.

Dub.

How the hell can a wave destroy your stuff while I had a cheap lens on it and it was submerged for 3 minutes...

HOW THE HECK!?

Have you tried drying it in a closed bowl of rice? That + putting it next to my pc exhaust (well where the videocard blows out it's hot air) made my 5DMKII come to live again...

I have no idea

I suspect that canon didn't even try to fix it.

They wouldn't even let me talk to the camera repair tech.
They didn't even open the box till a week after if arrived there even though I called ahead to let them know it was coming and that they should get onto it right away.

You should have sent it to Steve instead.
He is the official wet camera repairman.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA JP J.r. I'm almost putting that on my CV thanks to MF!!!!

God haven't laughed so hard in a while (well 40 mins...)

Seriously Dub. it's weird. You removed the battery ON THE SPOT DIRECTLY after the unfortunate event of cam meet the water?

Was it salty water?

I find this case very peculiar.

well the camera was on when it got splashed. I switched it off right away and removed the battery after about 3-4 mins when I could get to a suitable place.

It WAS salt water and it was a reasonable splash (maybe a cupful?)

a 5D MKII should me splat resistant.... I mean come on it's not that it was SUBMERGED. Except for my 5D's u-boot adventure both of my cams endured quite some more water.

I even heard of a guy who cleans is 1DMKII in the garden...... with water (after desert shoots)

it's extremely weird... seriously

Sorry to hear dub, hope it all gets fixed and doesn't leave you out of pocket

I have to admit though, I haven't heard many positive things with regards to the 5d's weather sealing or lack there of. I have read they claim some level of weather sealing but I wouldn't trust it in even a light shower to be honest.

Read the luminous landscape antarctic expedition results, there were a lot of 5d mk2 failures, but then again there were a lot of 5d mk2's vs everything else.

I don't know about the d700, again it is claimed to have some level of weather sealing and people say it is pretty good but none of the manufactures for cameras in this range will grantee their sealing under warranty.

I can tell you that I sure wont be using my sony a850 in the rain, thats what my olympus is for
