So... who's gonna buy?

GPS, Wifi, 18.1mp (I have 21 tho lol), 14 fps (!!!)... ISO range 50-204,800 (!!!!!!!!!!) and dual CF cards (NICE)

Seriously if just the number of MP's would be a tad higher... :P

Price around $7000

Not me.

I'm done with Canon, and with cameras. I bought an expensive Canon lens, it broke a few days out of the warranty and I'm screwed. It was only used for the occasional studio work, on a tripod. I expect better build quality for the money.

*grumpy ranting*

They are backing up in pixel size to benefit fps
I for one think 18mp isn't enough for pro use, a flagship should have a minimum of 24mpx
There is a reason why ppl buy 50mpx Hasselblad boxes

That seriously is the only drawback yes. If it was like 30 megapixels (how many does that Sigma camera have?!) then even I would be a serious potential buyer.

Still some of the other features seem bloody fine to me. For website/new media use 18mp is over-the-top enough.

it's obviously meant for sports and other fast action shooting, still i'd have thought 24mp would have been the minimum for a flagship pro thingy

Nik! That's obviously very bad luck though, you're never going to buy anything of theirs ever again because of that? :)

Lol, I was being overly dramatic. But, spend a grand on a lens that lasts just over a year... I can't see me investing my own money into one again.

Must be bad luck Nik
Sell it on ebay stating the defects and use the money to buy another
Or contact Canon stating your problem, tell them you'll promote Nikon on maxforums if they don't respect your ottorothy!
As a last resort, if nothing else works, tell them about "drjimsfarmanimallove.com" and how it will promote Canon...

:) good. Also my two main lenses have dodgy sticky broken auto focus's, but they probably had beer spilt on them or something

You wanna sell the body?

Not yours, the camera. :D

Tough break on the lens but i've worked with photographers who have owned the same canon lens for years. I would wager it may have been a random jolt some where that caused it to break. Did you keep it in a safe place?

You could always take it to a local canon repair shop. I know we have several here locally who specialize on fixing discontinued and out of warranty DSLR lenses.

>> I for one think 18mp isn't enough for pro use, a flagship should have a minimum of 24mpx

seriously? I think a 5k image is plenty. People get way to wrapped up in megapixels. 18mp is plenty enough to make nice gallery prints. I've still got prints from my old original canon 1D (4mp) that look great at 18 inches wide. People now days get lazy, and compose their image later when they crop it because they have so much resolution. Back when I had 4mp, you had to use every pixel you captured if you wanted to make a good print! I still shoot that way.

>> There is a reason why ppl buy 50mpx Hasselblad boxes

Yep, and they cost WAY more than $7 grand, and is probably slow as molasses with crummy upper ISO performance. But that's not what the camera is designed for, speed and low light. It's designed for resolution in a studio. The canon is designed for a broader market, with features that benefit alot more types of photography.

At some point as resolutions of relatively small sensors (35mm and cropped DSLRs) increase, they will be out-resolving what the lens can project. At which point, it's time to step up to medium or large format with more surface area. I don't know what that resolution is, but it's probably not far off from 18mp, especially on zoom lenses.

I won't be buying it, my 1Ds2 is doing just fine, it'll probably never konk out on me! If I ever do have to replace it, I hope that the resolution doesn't really go up to much, but I hope the ISO performance blows me out of the water.

What kind of lens is it and what's the damage?

Also yes they can have something, but they're made to perform, not to be thrown around. These lenses are fragile. There are however rubber protective covers for bodies/lenses...

Also I love the old metal Pentax lenses. With an adapter you can create awesome photo's while just spending about 20,- euro's on a lens + adapter...

About this cam: it's obviously for sports yeah, 14 fps is NICE.

So what do you guys think of Sigma's SD1?

46MP..................... that being said, MP's isn't everything.

I know what you mean Daniel, i was expecting someone to jump on the mpix train any minute now.. :)
I have a friend who can shoot awesome images using a cardboard box with a small hole, he thinks MegaPixel is a very small superhero..

I on the other hand shoot stock and use a 21mp not to be lazy and crop but to have images in the higher size category. Buying an 18mp cam would be a serious downgrade for me.

All i'm saying is that this flagship should have been 24mp unless they have a roadmap planned like mk1=18mp : mk2=24mp : mk3=36mp or something like this.
