Cannot right click..

As above really. Can't right click on an object any more and show the popup menu. Have I turned it off by accident? Any ideas?

Thanks :)

Can you right click outside of the program?

There is an option in the preferences (viewport tab) to only let you right click over the selected object and nowhere else, is this what has happened maybe?

Have you restared max/PC since the error occured?

Right click works outside of Max.

Yep I've tried that option with it on and off, and it makes no difference. I've restarted Max and tried it in a new file but still the same. It was working fine 10mins ago. I do remember bashing some keys on the keyboard out of frustration though, so maybe it turned off :p

Gonna reboot and see if it helps,

cheers!

One should consider investing in a fake keyboard to bash. Max has a tonne of hotkeys!

Edit
Damnit, someone's always thinking the same as me around here. And they always seem to post seconds before me! ;)

Before you do that, close max, track down your 3dsmax.ini file, and delete it. Now re-launch max.

The .ini file will either be in the root install directory... or hidden somewhere in your Documents and Settings (depending on which version of Max you're using)

I have version 9 + Vista. Do you know what sub-folder it lies in by any chance?

Cheers bud.

Edit: The only root ini's in the install dir are: InstallSettings.ini and plugin.ini.

I'll check the 3dsmax folder in Documents.

From previous threads I believe it is here:

C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Local Settings\Application Data\Autodesk\3dsmax\9 - 32bit\enu

although who knows what mess vista has made of that directory path

Thanks. Deleted it and it still doesn't work!

For Vista users, the 3dsmax.ini lies here: C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsmax\9 - 32bit\enu

Ahh well reinstall it is. Cheers for the help bud, and everyone else!

STOOOPPPPPP!!!!

:)

in the help files it says...

Tip: If the viewport right-click menu becomes disabled, you can restore it by refreshing the UI scheme. Use Customize menu > Load Custom UI Scheme to load a different .cui file, then reload the original .cui file again. The right-click viewport menu will become available after either the new or original UI scheme is loaded.

you know how to avoid it in the future so you don;t have to reinstall? DON'T BASH YOUR KEYBOARD. It has always been a policy of mine and so far it's worked:)
