show user profile  Darius
Hello pro bros,
I'm going to buy a cpu for maya(render engines: mental ray, vray, arnold, furryball, renderman),zbrush,ae,nuke, realflow, unity, max etc.And my pc configs are going to be...

mobo: gigabyte X99 ud4
cpu: intel core i7 5820k
ram: ddr4 8gbx3=24gb
hdd: seagate 2tb sshd+current 1tb hdd
gpu: gigabyte 970 4gb ddr5
psu: 750 watt gold

are they good enough for my work?
I mean for photorealistic renderings...
thank you

What you have there is fine. It's more than enough to make photo-realistic renders, if you have the skill to make them.

good setup. Personally would go with a SSD instead of a hybrid drive but thats just me.

The build looks great but if it's possible you might want to wait a little. The new Skylake architecture launches in a few months. It might reduce the price for the older generation CPUs.

Yeah, I've been looking into that a bit. What's your view on Skylake at the moment Stabby?

Actually,I wanted to wait. But,my mobo died yesterday. It doesn't have any warrenty. as it passed almost 3.5 years. And I have to submit 2 maya environments(normal one and underwater) in Monday class. So, you know I cant even wait... :( .

I've got one more question. Which 128gb ssd is good for longevity at a reasonable price? I don't want to use seagate hdds/sshds. As they have high amount of failure.I would like to buy a wd black 2TB 7200 rpm 64 mb cache HDD and an ssd. Now,suggest me an 128 gb ssd.Thank you.

the 6+ core variants of skylake probably wont be around for at least a year(more likely year and half), I wouldn't expect a price dip for the chip he wants to buy until then.

Other then that, I can only speculate on "leaks" which may or may not be true. Some say 20% ipc boost, some say 5%, I'm guessing it will be the usual 10%. They are also going upwards in TDP which will mean higher stock clocks.. computer magazines will be impressed but the overclocking potential is unknown.

Watch out for 2016 though! AMD said they are developing a new high end architecture which according to fanboys definitely means they are making a comeback and will kick intel's ass, when that shit hits the market all previous chips will be worthless trash.

As for the SSD, maybe get a cheaper 2tb drive and put the savings into a bigger SSD? I was on a 240gb ssd for years and even that was a pain to deal with. After windows and max's and mudboxes and photoshops and vse's etc etc, I could only keep like one game on the drive at a time :p As for brands, samsung makes good budget ones.

I'm looking forward to see what amd does in next year. But,I'm tired of AMD platform. Comeback is needed.
