bump map won't bump
Hey, i have a black and white image that i want to use as a bump map in 3d max. But for some reason it won't really bump.
When i use the heightmap in a map editor like irrEdit then i really get mountains, when i use it in max then i hardly see anything.
I made some screenshots of what it all looks like.

bump is at best a trick on light
slap it in the displacement slot with a disp approx on the stack
something along those lines

Thanks, that did the trick :)
But unfortunately i bumped into another problem. When i try to export my bump map to a 3ds file i get the following error:
object has too many faces [more than 64k] to export
It really needs to be a 3ds file. But what can i do about this..?? I've read somewhere that i have to split up the meshes? But i'm not sure how to do this. Could someone please help me a bit with this..?

just lower the faces on the plane or add an optimize modifier to the stack ..
BEST OF ALL HIT F1 :)

3ds files are limited to 64k polys per object, either split it up into multiple objects or lower the poly count. Theres no way around it if *.3ds is a must
