Building a NURBS model over a hi-poly model?

Hi guys,
I have modeled this "low-poly" hand in Max. Here's how it looks with the "NURMS toggle" turned on.

What I need is to somehow really turn it into NURBS, to be able to export it as IGES and then import into Inventor.

Any ideas what's the best way of doing this?
