Z-BRUSH figurine business [IMG] ?
show user profile  bratok
Hi guys,
After learning my way around Z-Brush I came up with an idea that it could be possible to 3d-print out all sorts of organic characters and then duplicate them in plastic, resin, whatsoever.

Of course, I'm not talking about making 10 of them and selling them in a garage sale. Supposedly it should be hundreds sold to some wholesaler...

Maybe someone already has some experience in this field?

my first works:

Kids would be scared of bying organic things like these, but the idea is good.

WHAT?! kids nowadays aren't scared of getting guns and shooting their classmates why would they be scared of plastic figures. From what I can remember kids have bought monster figurines since at least the 80s.

have a look at this place. Some people seem to be making copies in resin of stuff. This company has a shop too so you can sell your designs. :)

Okay you got a point Grotey, maybe kids today dont get scared of plastic monsters..

But if you want to compete on the plastic monster marcet bratok, you would need some cool designs.

show us your best work then watermark it if you are concerned about people pinching the image

to be successful with this kind of toy/figurine you most likely need an established franchise, ie transformers, star wars, tmnt, spawn etc. if you were going to sell these toys/figurines you would almost need to start a comic book series or cartoon featuring these characters to compete.

There's an existing market for vinyl/resin figures.

There are some forums around that discuss making them
- http://vinyltoyfreaks.com

For many figures it is essential to know the process you are going to use before you create the figure as you will need to consider parts / size limits / weak spots /limits etc.

I designed some models for Aveda in 3d,
but these ended up being sculpted by hand from the 3D designs.

presumably you would make a master from the 3d file then take moulds from that to mass produce items, as has been mentioned productions not the issue, lack of demand is.
