Box and Flat Mirror
show user profile  veteran
I have a scene with one object (A helmet)
I build a plane and place it under the helmet so it will reflect the helmet (works perfect)
I build a box (a table), and place it under the helmet so it will reflect the helmet, using the
same material I used on the plane. And, no reflection.
I rotate the box 180 degrees and voila reflection.

So 1) Why is only 1 side of my box reflective?
2) how can I fix this? Flip normals distorts the entire box but allows the reflection on the correct side.

To understand my problem, build a box, say 200x200x10 and then place a sphere on top of it. Apply a material with flat mirror in the reflection. You will have to rotate the box 180 to see the reflection.

I appreciate any help. Thank you in advance.

No, there is only an option for "Apply to faces with ID" or "Use Environment Map" (Default). I have tried both, and still only the back side of the box is reflective.

I can easily render using MentalRay and both sides are reflective, strangely even using Flat Mirror which isn't supported under MentalRay. It's just the default scanline render which won't render the reflection on a box correctly.
