Bounding Box, Best Fit Rotation Within Bounds

Hi Guys,

I have 2 questions. perhaps i should post them separately though they are related.

I have 2 problems. the first being - upon importing geometry into max some times the bounding box is not oriented to world so currently i orient the part export and re import. this adjusts the bounding box the world coordinates so i can then apply modifiers such as FFD properly

1) Can the bounding box be changed using Max Script?
2)Any Ideas how i might Nest several objects into a given volume with no intersection?

for question 2, I can not use the Intersecting as it uses the bounding box and most of the geometry I'm using are irregular shapes (U-Shapes and similar)

Thanks guys, any direction would be great. this has been an ongoing problem for a while now and I'm Finally getting to the tail end of the UI I'm working on.
