book advice

Hi
I'm thinking of buying 3ds MAX 5 for dummies (lets face facts).
The only thing I fear is that, as this was written for MAX 5, MAX might have changed SOO much since then that it bears no relevance any more to MAX 2012.
has anyone read this book or can give me any guidance as I bought 3ds MAX bible 2011 hoping it would be relevant to me but would often get lost or not find what they were talking about, so I'm trading this for bible 2012.
thanks Steve

yeah don't worry about it. Those kinds of beginners books tend only to be repackaged versions of the tutorials that come with Max anyway.

He who says it cannot be done is interrupting the man doing it.

Right thanks, I'm just aware that I haven't touched my ET for a few weeks now (stop laughing, grow up :-) ), because I cant get through this importing into mudbox thing to sculpt the high poly normals, and if I don't make that jump, I'm stuck where i am.

I still have my max 5 bible from way back......it reads like a refrigerator manual....so I wouldn't bother with it.
A great site for modeling characters is 3dBuzz...sign up for free and watch their Alien tutorial....they use max 5 ironically.....it's an old video series but very well done.
