Blender cast on justin.tv
show user profile  _3dioot
For the people interested i will be playing around in blender some this afternoon. Not an awfully focused cast. Just want to have some fun with physics to create some simple animations. If you come take a look I am ofcourse open for any questions regarding blender.

Major *DOH* on not supplying the link! ^_^

Thank kb. Had to cut the cast short regretfully because of limitations with the baking out of physics. (its a little over an hour now)

However I do show you how to create some physics in the game engine, with rigidbody joints and another animated object which interacts with the other physics objects.

If anyone is interested you can watch it back at:http://www.justin.tv/3dioot/b/287417447

As you're done for now, thought I'd post this here rather than start a new blender thread.

Decided to take another look at applying textures & found this :

... so you apply textures in the UV editor ?

... then took a look at the material editor & couldn't see how to apply additional textures there.

Guess I'll figure it out eventually.

Working with textures is really arse backwards in blender. So im not suprised you have problems with it. ;)

Im still thinking about doing a quickstart cast on blender for experienced 3d (max or other) people who want to know more about it. Would anyone be interested? :)

I'd like to know how to apply additional textures such as a cube reflection map, normal map, opacity, specular, etc.

Is this possible in the current 2.5x beta ?

3dioot, that'd be really useful if you could do the quickstart cast. I really want to get into Blender but keep hearing such mixed reviews about it that I haven't even hit download yet. But then each new version that's released gets better and better so I'm one day going to have to jump ship and at least see what the fuss is all about :)... A quickstart cast would definitely seal the deal.

hey JW, cool beans!

i just realized what would be the most awesome thing ever and thats a small tut on how to do the basic max things in blender.

things like
- how to make a poly box and polymodel it and apply a meshsmooth mod.
- how to manipulate objects, cameras and lights
- how to add a material to an object
- how to start a sculpt
- how to render a movie

things like that.
i always seem to lack a certain thing that keeps me from using blender
if you know such tuts i'd love to know about them.
ill be checking you vid in a bit

@ AS

Sure that possible. :)

@ liondebt

Well let me tell you upfront im not going to be the one to tell anyone to use blender over any of the commercial packages. Working with blender has learned me both how powerful and how awkward/unfinished it is.

With that said i'd be happy to plan a quick start cast sometime in the future.

@ Kurt

Those are pretty much the topics id like to cover in a quick start cast. Of course you could always go to www.blendercookie.com and do the "getting started with blender" tutorials. These do cover the basics from what I remember.

That wont be as much fun as watching me cast though (and they may be a bit slow). ;)

If you are really interested in a quick start cast (will probably take 1 - 1,5 hours or thereabouts) let me know. Since we share the same timezone that should be easy enough to setup. Liondebt lives in the UK so that should be doable as well.

I dont know if there are any more takers and whether a specific day would be preferable? Sunday afternoon maybe? :)

Thanks.

Did a little more research & found the following normal mapping tutorial which demonstrates how to bake a normal map & apply it (& by extension other textures on a material). This tutorial also demonstrates how to activate shaders in the viewport (off by default).

Textures are applied from the texture tab & assigned in the influence sub-section. Yay.

texture into the emit (self illumination) slot doesn't seem to work yet.

Kurt (and other people interested) if you want some guidance into blender ill be happy to a cast on it. We do need to pick a date/time though and go from there. :)

Ill be out of internet from tomorrow till the weekend though, just so you know. ;)
