I've been hearing a lot of buzz about this recently... Has Blender improved significantly over the past few years? I remember there being some problems with it before. If I were to switch 3D apps, and say I only had time to learn 1 new interface, do you guys think I should migrate to C4D, Modo, or Blender?
I heard that Modo is not as feature complete as the other major packages yet, but supposedly has a lot of promise and is built on more modern technology. I remember thinking their demos were pretty cool. I've also heard that I shouldn't necessarily give up on Max yet--that it has a solid core, and is a major industry standard. One plus for MAX is that I know it better than anything else.
But Blender... I'm drawn to its open-source-ness. And I keep hearing about people migrating to it. I downloaded it and played with it and the UI just makes NO SENSE! I also heard that once you get used to it, it's really intuitive. Is this true? Can I use specialty rendering engines like Maxwell, Fryrender, Vray, etc. with Blender?
I am certain of one thing though... I will NEVER get the Autodesk 3DS Max subscription. Sounds like a total scam.

I heard there's a Vray for Blender. If that's the case, do it! :-D

I have to say i have been considering the same mate. Blender 2.5 (I think) looks like it will be the best release yet.
Advice I have been given here before is that you wont get a job with blender, but if you are freelance then i dont think that applies. I havent voted, but I will watch this thread!! :)

Blender 2.5 will be the best Blender release yet.
But then again that's the best Blender release yet, and it is only just implementing a bunch of concepts that have been in other apps for a long time, it's not mature, not complete, it's a major re-haul just to get blender to a place where its workflow is remotely modern compared to its abominable state pre 2.5.
Undeniably it has some good benefits such as.... errr.. it's free?
Ultimately it depends on what you intend on using it for.

I'm a Blender user, but I have to say that now is not an ideal time to switch to Blender. Blender 2.4x's UI makes perfect sense, but you actually have to study it as if you were learning 3d software for the first time before you can use it. Just like when I learned Maya in school. Blender 2.5 is far easier to use, but it's not complete software yet, until version 2.6. It's unstable, missing features, etc. An Alpha release. The problem being, if you learn 2.4x you're studying something which will be obsolete in 6 months when 2.6 is done, and if you learn 2.5 you're stuck with Alpha software until the glacially slow open-source development produces the Beta version.

I see number of votes, not the lines. Both would be perfect. A line and a number on it.

I can't see any of them. No numbers and no lines. I get the option to vote again, but I already voted so as soon as i click anything again I get an error. Where is the Spoon when you need him?

If I try to vote more than once* using FF, I get a "The requested document was not found on this server." message rather than the usual "you've already voted" message.
* for testing purposes only. Honest, guv.
