Maxunderground news unavailable

Blacks too black to see.

My blacks are too black. I cannot see details.

What do I do to see them better. I use 'Shaded'.

make them reflective, most hard surfaces are.

Don't use pure black. It doesn't exist in the real world. (Except for that recent scientifically created super-black color which is so unnatural you lose your mind) A very dark grey is better in your case.

I downloaded this kitchen from 3Dsky and rearranged it.

As you can see it's dark grey. But, it appears pitch black in the viewport.
Surely there must be a way to view things better.

Sir Manfred...it's the first time you have given a proper response...thanks...... but STRAT was right... I meant vewport. Come on, switch on :)

Also, I use one colour only when making walls and ceilings... should I use a random colour?
In Sketchup you can assign a low res texture to an object and use that as a marker for Vray.
Can you assign textures to objects in Max alone?
When you assign a colour to a object in Max does this act as a marker for Vray?

Just change the colour of your model to "not black." If you've assigned a material you can click the "show material in viewport" button (in the material editor). Or you can switch to "realistic" mode in your viewport. I assume you're using Nitros display driver. If not click "configure viewport" (click the "+" in the top left of your viewport and you'll see it). What else... upgrade your ram and graphics card. Uh, optimise your models.

Don't know if it's possible to "Viewport Material Override" in Max, it seems a question that's been asked a 1000 times if you Google it.

I have the Viewport Textures on/off script...nothing happens.
I looked at all the scripts you suggested and they are way out of date... so I will take your word for it that they don't work on 2014.

Maybe the textures were baked into the model.

I have a 1GB graphics card and 12 GB of ram on a (.7) 27" iMac.
That should be good enough.

Can't help wondering if it's possible via maxscript to record all materials applied in a scene, then apply a toggle-able global material to the entire scene, and revert back...maybe too slow and clunky.?

Some transferable method maybe....

I installed Vray 3.0 Demo for Max 2015....

...now I can see all my textures again and the pitch black objects have gone.
Which is great cos I still have Corona as my main render engine.
