Big dam scene
show user profile  digital3ds

Here's my inspiration

I thought this was gonna be a walk in the park, but for some reason I spend half the time just starring at the model trying to figure out what to do next; I'm going to make the entire scene using Max, Mudbox, Realflow, Vue, and rendering in MR

The dam and scene are to scale, its the same height of the Inguri dam, and as wide at crest and base as the hoover dam. I'm pulling the coolest features I can find from a bunch of different dams, the scene will look like the above pic / ref images of Inguri dam. Here's what I'm staring with.

The green box on top is the size of a very tall man. I want to do this in 2 weeks, but it's been pretty busy around here so idk

As the others have said, looks interesting. I hope you know how to use proxy's, those trees will eat up your ram... I assume (actually, I don't know how to proxy stuff myself, if anyone knows a good tute...).

I apologise in advance if I derail your damn thread with questions.

right cilck > vray mesh export > export as 1 mesh > auto create proxy > done

Vray wont eat your ram, its dynamic. As long as you have enough xrefs for your fiolage, youl be rite. Happy maxing, looks challenging.

Reminds me of this pic i seen this morning

I'm going to be using the same cameras to watch progression; at this point I think 'll call the buildings and dam finished and ready for texturing. After uv's are set I'll break up the closer landscapes and send them to Mudbox.

The only other terrain I'll model in max + mudbox will be around the river; everything else (like the big green boxes in the bg) will be done in vue

found some time to work on this earlier... gave the dam a base texture, going to refine it in PS tomorrow
