Bicycle theft survey!
show user profile  MrPumpernickel
I am currently working on my degree work in my bachelors education in industrial design at the Umeå Institute of Design. The aim is to create a concept for a device to prevent bicycle theft. I'm currently in the research phase of the project and I would appreciate if anyone who reads this takes a couple of minutes to answer this short survey.

Thank you!

I wrote it in the survay, but would like to know what everyone thinks about the idea here.

The biggest problem with those devices as I see it, is not the main lock itself (everything can be broken into, depends on how much convenience you're willing to sacrifice for the added security)

But what I never saw on any bike, is a separate unit that would lock the wheels and a seat to the frame (then a frame to something else with the main unit).
Result - each time I leave a bike for a longer period of time, I take a seat with me, looking like an idiot.

Do something about it :P

an efficient workaround back in my days was to remove the saddle and take it with you.
Doesnt work well when parked in the gay district doh.

done! i havent had my bike stolen like ever, even tho i leave it everywhere for hours and i dont even have a lock! Ive formulated 2 possible reasons: a) im so intimidating that people who havent even seen me are still too afraid to touch my bike b) where i live people wouldnt touch a used bike even if i paid them

>>Black fella did it.

?

I had to steal my own bike not long ago. I lost my keys, and it was locked to a fence. It was one of those D style locks. The packaging suggested it's the best that money can get, and it's approved by the police.

Three seconds with a cordless angle grinder and it was off.
