Better Cap Holes?
show user profile  MrPumpernickel
Hey everyone, long time no see!

I've found myself in a bit of a pickle, I'm trying to stitch together a shitload of holes in a 3d-scanned model that has quite an organic shape. I'm wondering if there is a better cap holes modifier than the built in one, perhaps a modifier that can generate new mesh data for the hole based on the surrounding curvature of the mesh?

My googling has stuck nil.

Without seeing how complex the model is... How about re-topo of problem areas using Topogun or Silo3D demo ?

It's fairly complex, it would require rebuilding holes with a couple of hundred faces each. Though, thinking about it a bit more I could probably put up some planes, modify them roughly with soft selection, attach and weld where it needs to be and clean that up, should be faster.

Though any other suggestions would be appreciated :)

Try meshlabs. Despite the atricious interface it seems to be quite good at patching up models created through scanning.

try that script, works like a charm even though it is tricky to set up properly

cheers,
