best wacom for under $100?
show user profile  parkerfamily
what's the best wacom tablet for under $100? is it the bamboo or something, on your sketch threads a lot of people seem to use that.

edit:k thanks Dejitarujin. i'll go see what they cost online.

My Graphire4 has been quite good to me. They tend to develop an issue where the rubber wheel starts slipping on the plastic thing that actually drives the scroll sensor, but it's not a problem if you know how to use a screwdriver and glue.

all right i went to wacom.com, since i've had bad experiences on google shopping, and what i want to know now is, what's the cheapest one that displays whatever i'm drawing on on the actual drawing surface as well? because i don't think i could use one that doesn't do that to well.

o_o Uh, I think that's a Cintiq. Out of your price range... 10 times over. Also unnecessary, I don't know anyone who has one.

go for a bamboo :)

edit: and dont worry about the hand drawing and the eyes looking at the screen you WILL get used to it pretty quick

Cheapest Cintiq is $999, you won't find anything cheaper than that. You're basically buying a monitor with incredibly sophisticated RF tracking technology so it's pricey for a reason.

If you buy a Bamboo or Graphire and actually practice on it, you can indeed draw incredibly well without having to stare at the tablet to draw.

ya actually my dad convinced me before i came back to the thread that it was unnecessary. i actually got the smallest intuos3 available for 159 dollars. =D 4x6 is good enough for me. ahhh.... no more using the 1x1 thing that came with one of my keyboards.... i'm not even sure if that's supposed to be a tablet.

edit:dejitaru it seemed by far better, it has double the pressure sensing, i think it has mouse rotation where the bamboo doesn't, i couldn't find the graphire4 on wacom's site, which made me think it was discontinued or something, and therefore more expensive, basically, the peppy bragging sort of specs on wacom.com made me do it. but really, it was about 70 dollars more for a nicer tablet, only 50 of which i have to pay because my parents want to be able to use it occasionally so they said they'd pay part of it if it costs more than 100. =D

*blinks* You got an Intuos3... at 4x6? Why didn't you get a Graphire4 at 4x6? Or a Bamboo.

I used to have a crappy under $100 tablet and it did a grand old job, didn't have any of the fancy tricks the wacoms had but i managed to pull off some nice stuff with it when it decided to work.

I would have suggested the bamboo because of the price and what you will need, but the intuos3 is a great tablet indeed, hope you like it

I have a wacom cintiq21ux and don't find i really use it much anymore, I could probably gotten away with a much much cheaper intuos3 and been happy, but for the price i got mine at I can't really complain (I would suggest to anyone getting a cintiq get a protective shield for the screen, mine has scratches after mild use :S)

>>".... i'm not even sure if that's supposed to be a tablet."

you used the mouse touch pad as a graphics tablet?!?!?!

wow you have suffered! but yeah I agree with Dejitarujin, you got the top of the range wacom (intuous 3) when you were looking for one on a budget, odd choice.

ya, but when i made this thread i was expecting everybody to say, a wacom for under 100? good luck! so 169 is pretty good.

We use just about every model of Wacom tablet at the studio I work at, including a couple Cintiq models. The 12" Cintiq just isn't worth the money.

Under $100 isn't odd at all - that's been the normal price of the Graphire 4x6 tablets since version 2 (my first). Of course, mine was under $60 new off eBay. Back when a Graphire4 was the newest thing.

Generally, a tablet is something you look into pretty thoroughly and give a lot of thought. Not an impulse-buy, unless you have loads of cash. You've got twice as much pressure sensitivity as you probably need, at three times the money you should've paid :P

no graphire4s here in america. just figured that out by clicking UK on wacom.com and honestly, i didn't decide, my dad did since he had the mouse at the time. all the questions i had are done, this thread may now degress into making fun of the cintiq 21UX. 2000 for the 4x6.
