Benefits of SSHD
show user profile  Justin101
I heard it's a good idea to have the 3ds Max program, swap and file image directory saved to the SSHD. Can anyone make a bit more sense of this? I'm not sure what the swap is supposed to be.

Is this person saying that all textures I use in 3ds Max should go on the SSHD along with the program itself? Will this make workflow faster if textures are saved on the SSHD if this is what he means by file image directory.

Cheers.

Anything you use regularly would benefit from being on an SSD drive if that's what you mean. If you install Max or whatever on one, it'll load up quicker, if your project files are on one, they'll load quicker. The swap file i'm assuming you are referring to the windows 'virtual memory' or 'pagefile'. Basically windows caches to a harddisk when the system is running low on RAM, so having your pagefile location on an SSD can speed things up ( link).

with the current SSD prices, there is no reason to use anything but SSDS.. Maybe use spinning discs for storage, since 2-4TB discs are available for not too much money, but otherwise SSDs all the way.

Terribly boring signature.
