Beach-side Bedroom

This is the result of the problems i was having with the area light samples. Sorted that problem, but a render time for an 800x600 of 4.5 hours is not ideal! C&C's please!!

nice piece, wish it were my bedroom:)
whats your system spec? RE: slow render times
those sciency glass beakers dont seem to interact with the surface very well, but that is soooo minor that i dont know why im still typing :D

lol, cheers and me too!!

My spec is Pentium D 3ghz, 4gb ram, 200gb HD and Quadro FX 1500. Its ok normally, i can deal with some pretty big cad files for work, so its ok normally! Its literally the bloody light sampling that killed this one!

Very nice indeed. No real crits. The corner of the sheet on the floor looks unnaturally flat, but it's all very nice.

wow, you have a come a long way very fast mate! very nice render. I'd mess it up a bit thou. as mentioned, the bed cover is very thin and ridiculously flat on top, add some noise on it! also, there seems to be way too much white in your render. it blends too much imo, give the bed, shelfs and picture frame some nice color!

and yeah your render time is ridiciulous

Nice image & room design. The bed cover looks like dough and the carpet is too shiny, I suspect you have a falloff map on there, I think a daker matt (no pun intended) material would suit.

Whats the deal with the Triffid in the pot at the back, seems to have a beer gut. and with the camera angle, the chair in the far corner looks tiny... come to think of it, the one on the right sits really low.

Hmm, is a little too... white. For me. There are a few strong constrasts in colour but I don't think they're in the right place, y'know? Like the books, plant pot, bowl... standing out for no particular reason while the biggest features are blending into the surrounding walls. This could very well be intentional, it's just not my cup of tea (and i'll have you know, I am actually drinking a cup of tea right now)

I agree with Nik on the bed strand... thingy, looking too unnaturally flat.

I wanted it to all be quite white and plain with a few little details really, but if you have any suggestions on what colour to make those shelves/bedframe then i'm open to them!!

I'd love a cup of tea.

camera position is higher then eye level which gives the room/render a claustrophobic feel. I was thinking how it would be interesting to add to this effect by for instance buldging the ceiling inwards. Sort of making what started as a mistake into a deliberate effect.

The bedsheets are backwards! The top sheet should be folded back under the pillow (near the headboard), not at the foot of the bed! I know this because I used to work in a hotel!

Other than that, looks good, maybe a bit washed out with all the white values.

Nice work mate. There's about a hundred things wrong with this but it's still quite nice.
I admire that you're a self starter. You create your own projects and you take them
to a reasonable level of completion. I'm wondering about your render times. They seem awfully
longggggg. I don't use max 9 so I don't know if they changed the sampling values but when
I need to clean things up it's usually to a value of 15 or 20 on the area light parameters.
Not 512 but I don't know if we're comparing apples to apples.
Cheers! Nice job.

Thanks for all your comments.

The light sampling that i am talking about is in this image. Its the free area light causing we trouble on this one, but as i said, i think it might be due to the hge size of the light.

Nice work ! Only crit is the light coming from the door at the back of the room. It's too intense ! Sun should be the strongest light source at the moment the light coming from the door opening is stronger than the light coming from sun.

As for the render time. Which version of max you're using ? I don't have max on this PC and can't remember what the light rollouts looked like in different versions.
Rgds,
Timo

Great render though.

Update!

vkotek - Changed the colour of the bedframe/shelves etc.

geoffneck - chairs scaled up by 130% (They were tiny!)

dave - I have a cup of tea now too, and i have got rid of all the white!

setherial - i lowered the camera angle, its better now i think.

mattymoose - sorry mate, i left the sheets where they were! :-)

timtamfan - that was the only thing that i didnt like, so i knocked the light right out of that door and i think its more natural looking now.

Finally, Odie, cheers mate, i just noticed that too, but i had left it rendering over night and i wanted to post my changes today, not wait another 6 or 7 hours for it again!! I'll add some ceiling lights monday!!

Cheers for all your comments, hopefully this one is a bit of an improvement!
