Hmm , two times in a row I got thisi error .. happends when rendering , almost like the pc is gonna shutdown .. my screen goes black like the input is lost (tv even detects a loss on input )
Had problems with BF3 mp with random pc restarts (really random) and stopped playing all together because of it ... thought it might be a psu issue but ervery thing else worked even crisis 2 on full graphics 1080p res and 3dsmax... dunno know if this has to do with the same issue.... getting urge to build a new pc.... what do you guys think?

I got a similar bank of red errors when I accidentally tried to render out a scene in Mental Ray when I had Vray lights and materials. Don't think that's the error here but, on the off-chance it is...

Hmm, all materials are arch & design and I'm rendering with I ray .
Seems like its a hardware issue the way my screen goes black like the input was changed or like someone pulled the wire connecting the TV to the PC then plug it back. Max also crashes with an error report screen after.

sounds like something that happened to me a while back when I was using a laptop... the computer had a lot of dust and dirt in it so everytime something cpu heavy started running it shut down. I just took a can of air to it, cleaned out all the dust, and it started working again

random PC reboot when playing games is usual CPU Over heat(if computer is slow to boot after random restart) RAM ( Blue Screen or instant POST restart) or Graphic's Card over heat though cards these day's beep usually and you usually see pretty colors (artifacts) before a shut down

Inside the PC is clean ,I blow out dust regularly .I've checked my CPU temp at full load and its only 55c .gpu hits 85c .I've ran memory tests That come up clean .I've ran msi kombustor and a CPU stress test at the same time for 4 hours without errors .Ive checked capacitors for swelling ...
If its my psu, its a dell that dell doesnt make anymore, eBay has one new for 450$ ! I'm not sure if it will take a third party psu as ive heard it doesn't especially for the xps700 .
Tough part about this is that its random so I dont know right away if any fixes actually worked since I can't "make" the problem happen .
Just made a quote for 2400$ on a new build with a gtx680 in the mix....... money money money ..

Sounds like you've been pretty thorough. From your info above I can tell you your GPU is running really hot. It should be around 65-75c under full load. 85(185deg! I could toast my bread in your tower :) is very close to the threshold usually right about 90c(195deg!) and that additional 5c is pretty darn easy to hit, especially with the additional ambient heat of the CPU running at 55c(131deg) though with out artifacting I don't think this is the problem. Another thing to consider is the way you checked the CPU temp? BIOS or Software?

-Did you reboot and check BIOS?
-Did you do a hard restart and check BIOS?
-Try multiple memory tests and get a boot disk don't use a windows based memory, CPU, or HDD test.

The other Thing is heat isn't always a dust problem or a electronic problem but a circulation problem. I can tell you confidently with a lot of experience Dells, HP's both very bad circulation. Desktops and laptops alike (Cut holes add fans! in the right places / directions of course... I just feel like I should add: do not cut holes and add fans to your laptop... )

I think the power supply could very well play a key roll in this as with higher temps you generally see a great increase in power consumption i.e. power supply overload. The Response? Shut down. If you've upgraded parts in your dell and have not upgraded the power supply it could easily be that there is too much draw on the PSU. Almost all stock systems designed by manufacturers come with single rail power supplies and all hardware is 1 rev back(never the latest and greatest) and usually locked at stock speeds. long story short most aftermarket GPU and CPU, high speed HDD, Performance MOBO's anything in a Periferal slot etc... do much better with multi rail power supplies as the current is better and distributed to the system at a lower required capacity per rail at a global level(not at component level). Worth considering if you've upgraded any internal parts. The crappy thing with PSU's gone bad is there generally pretty difficult to test until they just don't turn on.

TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK
Load up a couple instances of max and open a scene with some dense geometry and then launch battlefield 3, throw the settings up to high and wait for a shut down.

Good news for you is you can get a very standard High power PSU replacement for the DELL XPS700 pretty cheap about $100 USD http://www.discountelectronics.com/index.php?l=product_list&c=5810

Hey, thanks for the reply!
I'm checking temps with software "realtemp" and don't laugh "ntune".. my dell bios is Crap and has no temperature monitoring , well ones that are available at least. memory tests where done with "memtest" and windows .85c is hot but that was taken during a bf3 match high graphics setting in 1080p And I might add before I adjusted my chasis fans to 40% .during an Iray render its only hitting 65cish . The default fan speeds are dumb , last night I worked in 3dmax for 5 hours with no freezing or crashing with my fan speed increased to 40% ... maybe that was the issue..like you say the air flow could be bad but with the fans boosted up its really good ( the xps700 tower is huge, 60lbs very open inside with my current setup). but like I said I can't seem to make this happen unless maybe Ill try what your suggesting ..
I have upgraded ram to the Max the system can take with the correct speed, upgraded CPU which could also be a problem ..long. story short the CPU isn't supported by dell for my machine , I checked the mobo specs and it should support and from what I've read does support 775 1066mhz ,which my qx6700 falls in .upgraded the gpu to a cheap galaxy gtx 550ti 1gig and finally upgraded from vista to win 7 64 home premium . I have the 1000 watt psu , good find on that 120$ refurbished psu ,the one I found for 450$ was new (don't know if that's something to consider ).
I'm not sure I should put any more cash into this considering all the upgrades I've done were just after jan2012.... but if I could pin point the issues to the psu I'd do it lol , only if I can pin point it.
Thanks again for your help,
Dan .
