Backburner and iray
show user profile  norwichnick
Hi All,

We have a render farm that consists of 10 dedicated render nodes that we use continuously throughout the working day. We typically use the NVIDIA Mental Ray renderer; due to requirements for a particular client we are now working with the NVIDIA iray renderer.

What we are finding, is that when submitting a job through Backburner to nodes using the NVIDIA iray renderer, the nodes never successfully completes a task. The nodes do not have NVIDIA GPUs so we are relying on CPU rendering.

In the node server logs, these are three ERR's we are seeing amongst several INF's:

ERR1: Task error: 3dsmax adapter error : Autodesk 3dsMax 17.2 reported error: -- Argument count error: AddOption wanted 2, got 1

ERR2: 3dsmax adapter error : Autodesk 3dsMax 17.2 reported error: -- Argument count error: AddOption wanted 2, got 1

ERR3: Launcher: Timed out executing command:"C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2015\maxadapter.adp.exe" "-o" "ShutDown" "-l" "Info"

If we cancel this job that uses NVIDIA iray and go back to another job using NVIDIA Mental Ray it completes absolutely fine, it's just the iray renderer that doesn't work.

We have tried setting another system as the manager and we see the same issue. In addition to this, we have tried submitting the job from another machine.

We are able to successfully render a job locally on a system, but it falls over when we bring in Backburner with multiple nodes.

I would really appreciate some assistance on this as we currently don't have a way forwards.
