Backburner
show user profile  Jock
I'm trying to set up DR on vray but running into a few problems so i thought id take a step back and see if i can get backburner to work forst as it would hopefully allow me to knock off some variables as to whats wrong.

So basically ive started the backburner server on the slave machines, ive ran the manager and monitor on my main pc and the monitor picks up the two slaves fine.

But...when i then go into the render settings and hit net render it takes me to a netwoek job assignment page, and the problem is that none of the servers show up there despite being seen on the monitor.

I dont know if this has anything to do with it or not but my main machine is 64x the slaves are 32x. Also i've noticed that at the very top of the backburner page it does say 'submitting to 64-bit servers' so does this mean it only looks for 64x and since the others arent, it cant find them?

Thanks

only read this quickly but i know we switched to 64 bit at work last year and were told you can't submit a 64 bit job to a 32 bit machine. however if you click on the 'advanced' button in your network render dialogue box there's an option to submit the job as a 32 bit one, try that and see if it works.

or try changing the adress to 255.255.255.255 and the same on the manager, or monitor or whatever it is :) Don't know why this makes it work but it does sometimes.

Done Boings method first and it worked right away, thanks a lot.

Though a quick question about that, will that mean my main computer wont use all its ram since its been sent out at 32x rather than 64x. This computer has 8gig ram in it.

Looks like i've got it all sorted now. Backburner worked so I at least knew that the computers were connecting to each other, then went back to the Vray DR, changed a few settings and its working!

Should speed up my work quite a bit.

your computer will operate as normal, it'll only affect what you send. just be aware that if you're sending a huge scene that eats up ram it may crash the render node.
