Is there a way to automatically weld 20 meshes together?
show user profile  Hivoyer
I am currently learning basic animation and I'm using a sample mesh I found on a site of a man with his arms and legs spread out, ready for rigging. The problem is his limbs are separated in 20 pieces and even if I Attach them, when I rig it and animate it,they tear apart - for instance when I move the arm,the place where it was connected to the shoulder before I attached them tears apart and in the wireframe I can see green lines where the seams are(the vertices are obviously not connected).I know how to weld individual vertices 1 by 1,but is there a way to automatically weld the seams. The limbs are otherwise aligned perfectly.

I remember having this problem ages ago when I first started using Max. I'm guessing that you're using Poser?

anyway, from what you've described, the best bet is to convert them all to editable poly, then select one of the parts, click attach and attach the others, and then add a vertex weld modifier. safest way is to make sure the vertex that make up the seams are selected in edit poly first, and then add a select poly mod, before the vertex weld mod.

He who says it cannot be done is interrupting the man doing it.

To add a layer of safety, you can go to border (open edges) sub-object level, select everything, convert to vertex selection (click on vertex under the stack while holding ctrl) and then weld.
That way you minimize the risk of accidentally welding two verts that just happen to be under the threshold but shouldn't be welded.

I think we've reached the Maxforums equivalent of the millenium bug, where internal thread ID's have started to repeat. There's a danger here that maxforums will eat itself and collapse, causing a phenomenon similar to a black-hole and in turn swallowing the entire solar system, and maybe even neighboring stars.

Dammit I clicked on a thread to talk about random old timers, not answer a 3DSMax question! What's going on here?!

I just watched the very first episode of twin peaks for the first time. The original pilot. Perhaps this has something to do with it?
(Which, btw, i couldnt understand the hype for. Most mediocre)
