Autodesk Composit Link and AE
show user profile  zeefusion
Hi Guys,

I am experiencing some odd behavior with camera matching in AE using compositor link in 3ds Max. Does anyone have any experience with it that may be able to help? Basically the imported geometry comes in as held keyframes but also changes orientation at random keyframes. The camera match is perfect in terms of position but when I apply motion blur, because the orientation flips at certain frames it causes the blur to be all wrong and spin around.

I have done the exact same process on a previous job and it worked with no issues. I cant see what I may have done wrong this time. Here is an AE file if anyone could take a look. You will notice in the Z rotation of the object it flips from + to - and I tried settings all to + but it doesn't fix it.

I have not experienced this specific issue.

What I have experienced though is link not really working due to conflicting versions of the current version of AE vs specific versions of MAX.

I honestly thought LINK might be the holy grail of integration.....kinda turned out (for me) to be a big, overcomplicated pain in the ass.
MAX2AE seems far, far better.

Would LOVE to hear your experiences with it??? Maybe I judged too harshly as I tried it right after release?
I use AE CC and MAX 2014 btw.

It seems to work really well until I try and add motion blur. What is weird is that it worked on a previous version of AE CS6 and maybe an update has caused the glitch. I am just setting it up for 3ds Max 2015 and AE CC 2014 and I noticed there is an installer called Autodesk Adobe AE in 3ds Max external plugins folder that wasn't in previous 3ds Max versions. I installed it and I cant even see what it has done nor can I find any info on the net about what its supposed to do.
