Auto body roll
show user profile  herfst1
Hey, second question today: I am rigging a car and have manual body-roll controls, but I want automatic body-roll controls. Something like a spring system that is tweakable to make it softer or harder. I've been searching for tutorials but I can't find anything for AUTO body-roll.

Cheers.

I came up with a super dodgy system, where a point is linked to the steering, then a bone looks-at that point from the roof of the car, then the body roll is orientation contrastrained to the bone. It's adjustable, but it looks like there's a pole on the roof of the car.

Of course, I'm all ears to find a more elegant solution.

What if you make the bone A little flexible?

yeah, bones are good, but I ended up with a different solution using the auto steering to influence the body. Just simple pivots and position and orientation constraints, but it works well. I do use a spring bone but it's for something else.

It's called Craft Director. It's good, but had some issues exporting. Plus if the driving line isn't 100% correct, then you have to re-re-record till it's right, rather than something tweakable.

I was referring to the company; not the software (which is technically Craft Director Studio)

i bought this for a large animation project we worked on, auto rig, auto damper corners, slow/increase speed, body roll etc. takes about 10 minutes to setup each car, totally worth the $ IMO
