Attaching objects?
show user profile  Nolan
Hi, I am trying to take an object and have a pin put through a hole in that object so it can open and close on its one but also rotate with the larger object it is attached to. I dont know if I can have it rotate about 2 different points (Not sure how) or if I can fuze/weld it to the pin and still have it able to move and rotate.

Is there any way I can have my pivot point change through out the animation?

did you try animating the pivot ?

yeah the best way i can describe it is think of the center of the tool (pivot 1) as the sun. Then think of the pin/hole in the blade as earth (pivot 2). I want the earth to rotate around the sun which I can do easily. But at the same time I want earth to rotate.

oh right. I got it.
the good old Xform.
move the center to where you want the new pivot to be and then animate the gizmo
(( it will end messy if you are not careful though ))

PERFECT! Thanks a bunch. One more question. All of my rotation animations are done by placing 4 keyframes about 10 frames apart and rotate 90 degrees each keyframe. Is there an easier way of doing this?

Am I missing something here? ...just link the blade to the tool and animate the two parts separately no? this is very basic stuff.

xforms are very messy if you ask me... or as I said, am I missing something here?

...groups are not good for animation either, fyi.
