Need suggestions on how to assign a controller to a material such as a bezier float? Also, how to animate a material move up say a pipe to show flow?

You can animate the offset of a material.

You can assign controllers to any animation track in the curve editor. That includes any material parameters that show up in there, e.g. you can first expand an object, than expand its material and you will find them.

never get low & slow & out of ideas
