I am seeing these new type of forums appear on various websites these days. instead of starting a thread, you ask a question and it auto searches similar questions for you. If it cant find one it posts it as a new question. I guess its replacing the traditional forum threads.

Has anyone come across this yet? I am looking for a platform to start using this myself but the only one I have found is

These are great for support, but I don't think they make as much of a community. I use Getsatisfaction. It's a great tool. It could never replace a traditional forum, which has a slightly different use.

It does take the community out of it however for searching for answers it is much faster I think. May I ask what you use it for and what plan do you use? Is the start plan enough to get going and integrate it with your own website?

I think I misled you slightly. What I should have said is that "A couple of bits of software I use has a getsatisfaction page for support, which I have used". Sorry, my first statement sounds like I use it myself!

I think it's great for finding direction in support issues. From what I've seen, the getsatisfaction page always feels external to the site that is using it. There doesn't feel like any real integration.

Just curious has anyone come across one for asking questions about 3D?

Vodaphone and also Blizzard use a similar support thing... when you search for anything, ie, troubleshooting, i assume it first checks your question against a database of FAQs, then it scours stickied, mod created forum posts relevant to your search, and then, sometimes just a blanket search of the forum itself.

While it is extremely useful in finding out x, y or z, it sort of kills the entire community and discussion-led aspect which, maxforums, for example has. Can't think of any specific 3D question-based ones, though.
