Arrows view
show user profile  pratamishus

I am a newbie to 3d max... I have accidentally pressed somehow shortcut and arrows that I move an object with, or the rotating paths have changed to somehow xyz axis lines. It makes the work with objects very uncomfortable. How can I change it back to those "colorful arrows" :)?

Thanks in advance,

I really dont know how people manage to do this, I have yet to find a shortcut for this. If its not 'press X' then go to the views menu and make sure 'show transform gizmo' is ticked.

[edit] it doesnt have a shortcut, weird. How does this get unticked?! :)

Nope... not that one... it does show me the transform gizmo... but it is different. it is just xyz axis, while before there were 3d colorful arrows if I choose "Select and Move" tool, and 3d circles around an object in case I use "Select and rotate" tool

Well they are the only two ways of re-enabling it. It must be something else. Does this happens on every object (i.e. even new ones, or just one?

Customize > Preferences > Gizmos :

Check the settings, maybe it's the size or something...
Did you try deleting the 3dsmax.ini?

EDIT: grotey, here is your third way of enabling it :P

The preference settings are just as yours... but still, the problem remains as it was

I could not find 3dsmax.ini. I made search though out the program_files and documents and settings for *.ini, and I could not find any file with that name...

about the 3rd method - what is that... sorry for stupid questions... I am an absolute beginner...

Oh!!!! done... the third method worked.... OH THANK GOD.... :)))). Finally... thanks everybody...

Just one more question - How do I make the object (by it's pivot) get centered exactly to the center of my grid plane?

haha :-D.... Thank you sypher-5... But it is not very easy to use help if you don't know what to search for... I am not as familiar with the terminology as most of you guys... I can't just type "3d arrows for an object' :)...

Thanks everyone... you did help me :)...
