Applying 2 masks?
show user profile  woutboeing

I have a question about masks and opacity maps.
The situation is that i have a map of the earth's clouds, mapped onto a sphere. (pretty basic stuff actually). using the same map as an opacity map, only the clouds appear, and the rest is transparent. so far no problems. now i want to add a second opacity map, to the world XYZ (fixed reference) on the same sphere so that only the left hand side of the sphere (so of the clouds ) is showing.

I already succeeded in making an object which only shows the clouds, and leaves the rest transparent using an opacity map
I also succeeded in making an object with a gradient ramp type opacity in world XYZ coordinates so that only one half of the object is shown.

now how do i combine those two?

for an example of what im working for: i want to add clouds to the logo on this preview website:

it would be unlogic to have the clouds appearing on the engine rotor, so thats why i want to mask them.and i prefer the world XYZ over the camera screen projection of the map, because it makes future animating easier.

Add a uvwmap to the sphere, set to 'planar' and set it to mapping channel 2.
Then use a mix map in the opacity slot. Have it black in one side and the cloud map in the other, then in the mix slot add a gradient ramp changing its mapping channel to 2 also, this way you can have different coordinate layouts on the same object.
