AO map doesn't line up
show user profile  Black Mariah
I have to be doing something wrong. HAVE to be.

I have an object I want to bake the AO for. I set the whole thing up in MR, AO override texture, all that good stuff. Select my object, set up automatic mapping, click the button. It renders the map just fine.

And then it doesn't line up to the object. I want to use the AO as a dirt map so it's kind of important that it actually works right. I managed to get it to work once by manually unwrapping the object but the whole idea of using AO is that I don't have to manually unwrap all three thousand damn objects.

I think it was Socrates who said... "I drank what?"

In what way does it not line up? Is it out by a few pixels here and there or is it totally garbled?

Completely screwed, as if it wasn't UV mapped in the first place.

And to add to that, if I collapse the automatic mapping then add a new UV Unwrap and open the editor everything lines up to the AO mapping correctly, but it doesn't render that way.

I'm lost. It lines up if you check it in Unwrap, but it doesn't line up when you apply it to the model? Or is it just wrong in the VFB?

uncheck 'automatic mapping' if it's already mapped

[edit- yeah, sorry, didn't really read the post fully- need more coffee]

Got it right first time, scotch. If I check it in unwrap it lines up with the rendered AO map. On the model itself though, the mapping is totally screwed up.

The only thing I can think of is that your tiling/ offset values are borked in your bitmap paramaters, or you have Use Real-World Scale checked, or your map is referencing the wrong Map Channel.

If the UVs and the map match up in Unwrap the problem has to be in the material.
