Anyone remember the thread about iphone panoramics
show user profile  Jock
I remember reading a thread once by a guy who had a gadget for his iphone that basically gave you panoramic images, but despite a few searches i've came up with nothing. Dont suppose anyone remebers it and remembers who it was that posted it?

Could do with asking whoever it was some questions.

GreyscaleGorilla uses an iPhone app called 360Panorama as a source for globalillumination in Cinema4d in this vid:

Not sure if that`s useful!

[edit] Ah, guess if it`s an actual 360 lens/gadget that`s different :)

Yeah its an actual lens you stick on the phone and if i remember correctly he got some nice quality panoramics from it. I've found a gadget online that seems to do the same but wanted to ask some questions first.

stitching is fine unless you have something moving in the 360 so no good for a party, etc.

also for arch vis - if you have lots of large blank walls it's hard to stitch as there's no visual cues to auto-stitch to.

360 lenses (mirrors) are the way to go imo as you can capture a 360 in one shot or a series for 360 videos.

need high res capture to avoid blocky images though so a phone camera wont produce quality results using this method (though would work fine for stitching)

It could have been me............ http://www.maxforums.org/threads/hdri_iphone_4/0001.aspx
This is the software I usedhttp://itunes.apple.com/de/app/360-panorama/id377342622?mt=8

I then realised that to get a true spherical image I would need to shoot using a fish eye lens, so I got thishttp://www.pixeet.com/
the lens is about £50 with software and it worked really well. Only problem is that it covers up the flash on iPhone4.

I then adjusted the image to have various levels of exposure and hacked together a HDR image, which although not a true HDR image still lit the scene ok.

Thats the right hardware, though i thought it had a thread all to itself.

Am I ok to fire across an email with one or two questions?
