Anyone here from Queensland Aus?
show user profile  jareu
Just wondering if anyone here lives in Queensland, Australia.

My whole family just moved up there and I'm sick of Adelaide as there is nothing going on here but mining industry related stuffs. I'm curious to know what the industry is like up in QL and if and where fellow MFers work there.

Yep, Im working at Liquid Animation in brisbane, and we got some work coming up ;)

edit: Adelaide, thats where Im from originally :D. More money down there though. Industry wise, its happening in Melbourne and Sydney. Its quiet up here, but you will find something to sustain you if you choose to come.

sweet! yeah Adelaide is nice, but its just so hard to find work at the moment. I was flat out last year but things took a dive and this year has been hard. I've no idea where to go, but my Dad keeps taunting me with his news of sunny weather and surfing

lol. Thats pretty much the reason I left. I dont do well in cold weather (less then 20 C). Its pretty much always warm, even in winter up here so that works for me. It depends on what your looking for I suppose, if its money then dont bother lol, everyone here is on par wages - Im pretty sure the chick at the donut store is on about the same as the lead artists here lol. But I dont care really, im young, no kids, party life style so meh, I can deal with the wages. Im going on a month holiday to Asia so I suppose its not all bad finance wise (but thats while waiting for the next project so you can guage from there how the work flow is).

Hes right to taunt you :P, you can surf in the winter here no problems, the water is warmer then the air.

Oh, and road rage here doesnt end you up in a Coma. Like I see every time Im down in adelaide lol. Some basterds always ready to fight you down there!

yeah, as he puts it, we're a bunch of angry children with cars.

I wouldn't mind being on a steady wage for once, even if it was only 800 pw, I've probably been averaging out 350-400 per week from my own business, taking into account all the weeks where I couldn't find work. running a business is tough

I hear you there. I run my own graphics business here and I clear about 3-400 pw. I get a bit more then 800 pw from my current job, seems to be more then enough to get by here. Living costs are quite low here, its just a matter of keeping yourself busy.

Your not wrong about the angry kids with cars, its a big car culture here, esp on the Gold Coast (where I just moved from 6 months ago).

Let me know if your planning on coming up and your skill set, as we are going to need some animators and compositers for a project coming up. Its going to be a good 3 months of solid work so if you could link some of your stuff that would be handy too.

sweet. If I could come up even for a few months it would be nice. My skill set varies, but all a pretty high standard. I'm a better compositor then I am animator, but I focus on modelling, programming, materials etc.

I just got back from a week's holiday in Port Douglas. The weather is AMAZING.

But I love Melbourne. Can't have all those alleyways without the rain...

World's most liveable city. Just sayin'

I dunno about Melbourne being the "World's most liveable city," better than Sydney, but cold as shit. And expensive too. Hell, even the Gold Coast was too cold for me. Moved to Malaysia, it's always 30 degrees daytime, 28 degrees night time, year round.

It's pretty amateur. But they do have an ILM studio in Singapore, Rhythm & Hues in Malaysia. Both of which I'd like to work at. But I'm just concentrating on freelancing over the internet at the moment. With the VERY low cost of living here, money is far less of a concern.

not sure about most liveable. I do like the culture there though. I guess home is where the heart is, but I really wish I knew where to market to and, if necessary, move to.
