Any Maya users here?

I have a 3ds max Vray scene that I could do with being re-created in Maya, same Vray materials lighting etc as best as possible.

I want to run some bench mark tests between software packages to see if there are differences. Anyone here able to apply some materials for me? I will supply the CAD and a reference image. Also C4D as well if possible :)

I will be uploading a benchmark scene soon in 3ds max/Vray. I will also upload a 3ds file for other software and render packages.

I am looking to collate a mega load of bench mark tests :)

Surely vray version x is the same no matter which content creation package it's connected to ?

Benchmarking the performance of different GPUs on standard test scenes would be more useful imo. Comparing the performance of different GPU accellerated raytracers would also be interesting.

I still don't know if a radeon 6990 is any good for use with vray-rt/gpu for example.

What about AMD APU's ... how do they perform ?

Would imagine getting hold of test hardware is the issue here.
Can introduce you to some folks at AMD if this is of interest, James.
No guarantee they'll be interested but we could try.

a little more insight here :

Thanks for the offer but I already have the hardware :) pretty much anything I need, just need to send them the files. That said perhaps a conversation with AMD wouldn't be a bad shout.

I wasn't sure if different software packages perform better, I wondered if anyone has actually compared? Surely they calculate slightly differently?

Why would they ? It's the same raytracer.

The only differences would be differences in materials but that's a setup thing. If they're different you're not comparing the same scene.

The performance of the app for interactive use - viewport performance, editing, etc. will vary. Max is slow vs. the others because autodesk turned on RTTI in max to address some stability issues. (search for thread on that here if you're not already aware). Bad plan imo. Maybe they'll switch it off again sometime to get the performance back.

Not 100% true. The implementations in Max and Maya are slightly different. They have slightly different controls exposed through the interface.

different controls doesn't make it a different raytracer though does it ?

or are there actually different versions of rt used in each package ?

you'd think chaos would ship their best raytracer for every package.

Thats what I thought Nik, even if its seconds in difference its still a difference that could be valuable to some.

Different in how many and which of the core controls are exposed. So, you can't just say X in Max is the exact same as X in Maya.

Very similar results are obviously possible, but you will be adjusting a slightly different set of controls.

"It would be pretty much the same.
