Just need an opinion on anti-virus software.
Is it worth paying for software to keep my machine safe or is there a free program that will do?

Any ideas for good anti-virus software for both free and non-free?

Don't pay, use Avira or Kapersky imho. Honestly I'm a bit out of touch, but I think those are the best 2 right now.

Agree with Tuna. Otherwise AVG-free, but its been getting a lot of false positives lately..

Terribly boring signature.

Avast Free - it rates high like Kaspersky. AVG Free rates a little lower. I switched a while back, because the latest version of AVG (8 I think) was absolutely pants. Too much crap slipped under its radar.

Avast + NoScript for firefox = win.
