yeah i created the star again.
Problem I have the star has to be 3d(white glowing outer shape and a blue center set back shape)and move along a predifined path, the path in the linked file I first uploaded. You have given me the know how so I guess I just have to battle with t for a while, keep yr fingers crossed as im running out of hrs.... :-( I will do it tho.
O and forgot to add, problem im having now is it animate round the path fine, but i need the star to start off tiny.... scalling changes everything....eeek

The inset face thing doesnt affect the process at all, just inset the end face, and extrude it with a negative figure.
didnt even see the file yo uploaded :o) what version of max is it? because if its max7 or below i will have a look tonight. (about 2hrs time)

Ok heres my final attempt, just couldnt do the inset and negatively extruded face, it just messed up, so i resorted to a self illuminated bitmap material for the end face, hope you get it done, ive spent just about enough time on this now.
btw sorry for the size of the gif, let it load once and it will go smoothly
[edit] to make the star get bigger, i went back in the stack to the star shape at the botton and animated its dimensions so it started one hundred times smaller than it ended up. this, unfortunately would only work with predefined primative shapes, you cant scale the object as it will scale the path too, as you have found out.
Cheers for that i like a challenge but this one beat me :o)
