animation help (mental ray)

Hello all

I'm after a little advise.

I'm working on a walkthrough animation of a building interior. It's approximately 10,000 frames long. The only animated parts are the doors that open. I'm using mental ray and want to avoid rendering a FG map for each frame as only a fraction of the duration has moving objects.

I'm thinking I should save one final gather map for all the parts without the doors moving. Then, for each section where a door opens, save out a FG map for each frame and comp together afterwards. I wasn't sure if that would affect the lighting going from one frame that was using a compiled FG map to a frame that was using a single FG map.

Does that sound like the right thing to do or has anyone got a better idea?
