Animation WIP - Egg Salad Sandwich

Something I worked on during the past few weekends for practice. I'm getting pretty close to done, just wanted to get some crits / feedback.

I like it but maybe bring the colours up a bit but very well done :)

The animation by itself is okay but totally doesn't match the voice clip. Apart from the age disparity he's just moving too much. The voice acting suggests alot more subtle facial expressions than wide bodily gestures. It gets better towards the end, though, once he's picked up the sandwich.

Nice start fella. You need more facial expression and the hands are looking very stiff. I also agree that the movement in places is over done and when he hits a pose, have him hold for longer to allow us to read things better. Improving the facial expression will allow to make the holds stronger and give him more 'internal thought process'.

Great start though!

Thanks guys. Agree with everything said. I know some of the acting is too wild, I'll see what I can do about that. At first the acting was very boring so I thought I would push it more than necessary and tone it back if needed.

Question on improving the facial expression. What would help most? Is it eyebrows, mouth shapes, cheeks, does anything stand out as what I need most? Do I need something like an FFD over the head to give it more cartoony flexibility?

This is a crappy self-built rig, but I'll see if I can work around that.

Loud, thanks for posting this. It's great and exactly what I want to learn how to do.
Without the egg salad though. Seriously, will the animation tutorials in max be enough to
learn how to do a character like this?

Yeah, just learn the basics in Max to get the technical stuff down. More importantly, and I've got a way to go to exhibit this in my animation, learn the principles of animation.
