Animating Visibility Track Black Problem
show user profile  thickey
I'm having some trouble rendering out an architectural animation piece. Basically the buildings are coming in, moving in the z position, growing out of the ground, and going from 0% - 100% opacity. One of the group of buildings I've set up so that 50 of them are the children of one building, whose visibility track I've made go from 0 - 1.0 over the course of 100 frames. The rest follow suit, and in the viewport the objects go from invisible to opaque over that 100 frames. The problem is that when I render it, for around 15 frames the objects go from invisible to COMPLETELY BLACK and then back to ghosted and continue on their merry way to opaque.

I thought it was a shadow reflection issue from the terrain that it's sitting on, but I turned the topography off and it's still happening. I've googled a lot about this issue but I must not be googling the right question because I haven't found anything helpful.

Not really sure about this one. Would help to see the animation, camera angles materials, lighting set up etc... so here's a few things to get started

- make sure no bezier handles are flipped in the track view
- check back face cull. If on and your cam is in the object for a few frames the back of the polys would appear black due to the inverted normals
- check track timing (dope sheet) make sure the parent or the children are not ending or resetting at the wrong time.
- try key framing the track instead and see if you have the same problems

you aren't giving a lot to work with. That's probably why nobody's responded yet. Try to give more info if you can if these don't help.

Good luck

As a quick test try animating an opacity map instead of animating the visibility track. I would assume this could potentially render different faces in the incorrect order

I appreciate your replies. I really do want to share a clip and show what is going on, but unfortunately it's for a client and I'm not able to share the animation. I'll give these a go and report back. I do appreciate the help.
