Animating lines...
show user profile  dry_erase
Is it possible to animate lines? I have to create a logo formed from a map of the world... I was going to key frame the vertices of the lines, but can't seem to key frame them. Can I do this, or is there a better way in which one can create an animation such as this?

Thanks

dry

not sure how you mean "animate line"

If you mean change an existing shape into a new one, you should look up the morph modifier.
It requires that the two mesh shapes have the same number of verts, which shouldn't be problem, if I understood what you wanted.

If you mean animate a line as in writing appearing magically, then you should look up the Path Follow modifier.

Terribly boring signature.

Well one way you can do it is by animating a point along a nurbs curve that is set to trim the curve. As you animate the U position of the point along the curve, you can tell it to trim the curve along the way. Here is a Jing example of it. I put it a Sweep modifier on top of the Nurb object to give it a surface. The shell modifier will do it too.

Holy crap, that is SO much better than the crappy method in the MAX tutorials. NURBS have a use after all!

Thanks, yeah, I really like some of the procedural abilities of the nurbs objects. I wish similar abilities existed with shapes and poly objects.
