animated materials
show user profile  9krausec
Hello.. I know this question has been asked here before (tried looking for the post, but could not find it in the search engine----also tried looking for words like spoon, 3d studio max and some more basic things, but nothing showed up --) What would be the best/ easiest way to create a simple animated material. I can go into fireworks and make a slide show type thing, frame by frame of what I want and save it as an animated gif.. I just don't know how to incorperate it into the material. Any help would be great, thanks!

I dont know if your looking to put this on a character but i do know that if your planning to use an animated texture (like a waterfall), then render out your frames waterfall_01 _02 _03 _04 etc, so that 1. it is not compiled as an animation and 2. it has a numbering system similar to above. When you goto your material editor in max click on standard image, diffuse color map, bipmap, then when you click on waterfall_01 there will be a box labelled sequence, press that and it will create the animation for you. just apply that material to what you want and when u press render it will appear animated.

This is not the only way to do this, this is just the way i did it when i needed a waterfall for my scene.

well thanks much.. I will try this. I am looking to put this on a character, but I would think it would still work, same principle.
