I saw this at the RCA show last year! I also remember you posting threads asking for help with some aspects of it (maybe the crystals, it seems you never figured out how to get refractions through those). I love the way you used motion capture for such an inhuman form, it's really uncanny and very interesting. The glitchiness towards the end is a damn nice touch, too.

Was all that mess of wires and joints as hard to rig as I think it was? :)

Ah.. thanks for the nice replies! It's the anniversary of this being finished and I've not done anything wildlly creative since (yes, let's say that it was wildly creative..) - so really nice to get some feedback.

To clarify- It's filmed bits of meta that are real, against a green-screen. I then boujoued the hell out of everything, which meant I could stick a sky in (just video of clouds on a plane set back from the camera). Then the moving parts were 3ds max objects linked rather crudely to a biped. The tricky part was getting the boujou to work well enough so that the shadows cast would hit the proxy geometry I had modelled (in order to be able to comp the shadows into the footage.)

The biped was done with motion-capture (which was great fun).. I was tied up with ropes and tied them onto heavy things and tried to move around, or in other shots I had ropes tied to my hands and feet and my brother yanked me around like a puppet while I tried to move along a ladder laid out on the floor. The more graceful movements in the beginning were a pro dancing girl.

Needless to say it never quite came together in line with the vision I originally had, but I'm not too unhappy about it. It's supposed to be about consciousness and how thought and self perception are vulnerable to our self loathing/lack of confidence and that the battle on the inside needs winning before you take on the outside- that an idea we have may fall foul of ourselves before it finds a way out... Yeah? You got that when you watched it? Great!

That's funny- small world... the private view this year is on thursday, I'll be wearing a tweed jacket which is a bit orange. Say hello if you see me. I think there should be some good films this year.

As for the rigging etc- I'm pretty shit at 3ds max so it was only as complicated as just linking everything to everything and hoping for the best.

Anyway apologies for blathering on- great community going on here with tip top advice.
