Animate visablity of a object?
show user profile  Nanne
I have a couple of boxes that should not be visable in the beginning of my animation and then they should pop-up and grow one by one. This is a cartoon style animation. So how do I keep them hidden? Maya has got a visibility property that is animatable (is that a word? :P), but it's kind of buggy so in Maya we set the scale of the object to 0 instead. Is this a good way of doing it in Max as well?

There is an animatable visibility property for objects. right-click, object properties.

Depending on which renderer you are using. Mental Ray doesn't support animated transparency, but the scanline does. Mr only supports on/off, while scanline can fade between the two.

A couple of ways:

1. Keep them off screen then move them back in a single frame, this will make them appear instantly.

2. Animate the visibility spinner in the object's properties window (this isnt supported by mental ray, only scanline)

3. Animate the transparency of the material.

I always use option 3 from Mr.G's methods. Works fine for me.
