Animal rig with facial controls?
show user profile  Jollabollathan
I'm looking to do a bit of lip sync animation for my showreel, but I'd really like to have an animal character rather than just a generic human. I've looked all over (cgtalk, animationlounge etc.) but there seem to be very few rigs of the sort at all, let alone for Max (Maya dominates, it seems)! The closest-looking thing I found was the "bull creature" rig here...but it's for Max 9 where I have 8. *bangs head* There also seem to be one or two on Turbosquid but I'm wary of paying money if I'm not certain what I'm getting. Alot of the rigged characters on there are just with biped, too...

If it comes to it I can just do a human (e.g. Max), but if anybody knows of a lip-sync capable animal/creature rig for Max 8 or below, either free or for a sane price I'd be eternally indebted. Thanks in advance!

I managed to test out that bull-thing rig I posted since the computers at uni have Max 9, but sadly it's not suitable for lip-sync.
I've gone around all the sites again and now have a collection of about 85 rigs, 70 of which are for Maya, and maybe one of which is a quadruped with lip-sync capability! Looks like I'm shit out of luck here...oh well.

I would really suggest just rigging it for facial expressions and lip-synching yourself. It seems like that would be the faster and easier thing to do in this instance.
Specialty: Non-organic modelling and effects.
Setup: 3D Studio 2010 with finalRender.
Rig: No, no I can't.
